The Sunday Salon Kicks Off - July 10, 2022

When I was in France, I had a lot of time to think (mainly about my career) and sometimes battled my own head. Alone time is great, but I often crave distractions after a while. There is nothing like in-person advice from your family and close friends.

I tried to hone in on the aspects I appreciate about my career. I realized how much I love the healthcare/health tech law space and the ability to unite people. There were two things that I have been saying I wanted to do but never made happen. I decided that when I returned to the United States, I would focus on getting my healthcare/health tech newsletter off the ground and begin the in-person meetups that I've fantasized about since the pandemic's beginning.

Finally, on July 10, 2022, the first Sunday Salon occurred at a women-owned brewery in Cobble Hill. The Sunday Salon (named after the literary salons of France) is an inter-generational and inter-professional organized meet-up for women on Sundays. Meetings will occur monthly at a women-owned or minority-owned business in New York. I was nervous about putting strangers together, and there was a point where I thought it would only be myself and one other person.

Slowly but surely, the responses came in, and I was thrilled with the turnout. There were five of us (four people in the legal field and one studying to become a physical therapist). It was a blast, everyone had a great time, and the conversations/beer were flowing nicely.

We all agreed to start planning the next one; hopefully, more people will attend. It was helpful to start small then; we'll see what this next get-together brings. In due course, I hope it gets large enough that we have one meeting in Manhattan and then one in Brooklyn. It's hard to appease all the boroughs, as we all know the New York Metropolitan area is so big. (Shout out to New Jersey as well as we have a contingent there)! Well, I'll figure it out, but I can say for sure that I'm very much looking forward to the next one!
